As promised to all of the athletes and spectators that I met during the Provincials, here is a link to the photos I took during the competition. Please feel free to use them as you wish, as long as it’s for non-commercial purposes.
See you at the Nationals!
Just a quick blog entry to report that I’ve attended the Ontario Senior Weightlifting Championships today, held at the NAV Centre in Cornwall, Ontario. I had the chance to watch Izzy defend her title in her weight category and take the prize for the best female lifter at the competition.
Having purchased a Canon 50D camera just before this event, I was able to take some pretty awesome shots for Izzy’s publicity and advertising campaigns. (You do know that I’m selling ad space on my head in order to raise funds for her, right? If not, head over to http://izzylifting.ca for more details!)
I also had a chance to speak with other weightlifters and I have a whole lot of photos that I’m giving away for free. So, weightlifters, expect the photos to be posted on the OWA Facebook fan page and on a Flickr account, sometime in the next few days. Do whatever you want with them! If at all possible, if you repost them online, please add this under it: “photo credit: Julie Laurin”. If you want to be contacted when the photos are made public, drop me a note at firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll notify you!
Working in sports is so different from spending time on artistic shoots. But I can confirm that it is no less inspiring to witness events like this that feature such incredible human strength and power. Well done, athletes. Until we meet again.
It started with a dare. When he heard that I was contemplating getting a hair tattoo, a friend of mine, the mobile genius Jeff Bacon, dared me to get a cheesy image of his choosing shaved on my head. He even offered to pay for it! And while I was contemplating the offer, and getting a good laugh out of it, I realized that I could go even further with this idea.
Instead of taking Jeff up on his offer, I’m going to do something completely crazy.
I am offering up my head for advertising space in exchange for funding for local athlete, Isabelle Després!
It’s simple – Isabelle needs our help to be able to compete at a couple of international weightlifting competitions this year. Funding for athletes is very hard to come by these days. She has a chance to compete in Guatemala and in Germany this year and may get a spot on Canada’s Olympic team for this year’s Olympic Games in London.
So here’s what I’m offering up:
Your logo, company name and/or URL shaved into my head as a “hair tattoo”.
You can purchase a spot on my head for the following price:
BACK OF HEAD: $3000
Also, your company name, logo and URL will be featured on Isabelle’s website, on this website, on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ and in the media because I’m planning to generate as much publicity as possible for this crazy venture.
What’s in it for you? A whole lot of PUBLICITY! I walk everywhere, I take the bus, I am planning several trips across Ontario (all by bus). I’ll be a woman with a shaved head sporting a company logo – it’s such an odd sight that people WILL notice! Plus the blog and media write-ups, interviews, social media awareness, support from the athletic community and much more. We’re creating a FIRST in athletic sponsorship in Canada.
Sponsorship must happen by MAY 1ST, 2012!
I will get my head shaved during the first week of May.
Make me do it for a great cause!
